About Grief.... by: Beth Landrum

When we think of grief I think our first thought is the death of a person.

Grief isn't limited to a person. We grieve loss of dreams, jobs, animals and our "normal" lifestyles.

Unfortunately I have known my share of grieving for people.

My hardest loss was that of my son. To bury a child is the most unnatural thing I have ever done. The pain sucked the very breath from me. I wish no other parent would have to experience that pain. Sadly, many will.

With the end of a marriage there is grief too. It is a loss of future dreams, of time spent together and of a secured future. When a job comes to an end there is grief. The end of a friendship, partnership or way of life brings grief. Grief is a thief. It steals our time, love, money and hope.

During our time of grief our emotions will be all over the place. We can experience anger, hatred, remorse, what if's and happy memories all within one hour. We may be hard to be around so the tendency to isolate may be your saving grace and for others too.

God knew grief John 3:16. Mary and the other followers of Christ knew grief. John 19:25-27.

Christ even knew grief. John 11:35.

When our son was diagnosed with a brain tumor, we soon realized his future was going to have to be altered. It wasnt what we thought it would be...But God.

I have lost friendship mostly thru ministry.... But God.

A marriage ended...But God.

My husbands job ended after 26 years....But God.

Weeping may come in the night but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5.

Maybe not this morning or tomorrow morning... But God.

I pray that if you are in a time of grieving, that you can find peace. That the pain that is in your very bones will begin to leave you. That the empty feeling you have will begin to fill with life again.

That you start to fill your lungs with air and exhale fully. May you know you don't walk alone.

Please, do not hesitate to reach out for help. Grief groups, one on one therapy and speaking with a trusted friend or Christian leader.

Please don't hurt alone.

But God
